Data Deletion

Data Deletion Instructions

Mendly is built with a privacy-first architecture that gives users direct cryptographic control over their DNA data. This page explains how data deletion works and what happens when you request it.

How to Delete Your Data

Deletion Must Be Requested From the App

Due to Mendly’s security design, deletion requests must be initiated from within the Mendly app.

Mendly does not maintain centralized mappings between user identities and stored genomic files. As a result, it is not technically possible to identify which DNA files belong to a user based on name, email, or account information alone.

Ownership and control of DNA data are enforced cryptographically, not through persistent personal identifiers.

Encryption & Access Control (Important)

All DNA data stored on Mendly’s servers is encrypted at all times.

The content of DNA files cannot be accessed, decrypted, or interpreted without keys, credentials and explicit authorization from the user’s mobile app. Mendly’s servers do not possess the ability to independently decrypt or read genomic data.

Access to DNA data is only possible when:

  • The request is initiated from the user’s mobile app
  • All DNA Shards are identified and the request is cryptographically signed using the user’s signing key
  • The user explicitly authorizes the operation

Without mobile app approval, the encrypted DNA files remain inaccessible, even to Mendly.

In-App Deletion Process

To delete your DNA data and account:

  1. Open the DNA Vault Mendly app

  2. Go to Profile → Delete DNA & Account

  3. Confirm deletion

When you proceed:

  • The deletion request is cryptographically signed using the same signing key that controls your DNA Vault and DNA services

  • The app identifies and lists all encrypted, hyper-sharded DNA files associated with that key

  • Ownership of the listed files is proven through the signature

  • Mendly’s servers immediately and permanently delete all associated encrypted DNA data

What Is Deleted

Upon confirmation, Mendly permanently deletes:

  • All encrypted genomic files

  • All hyper-sharded DNA fragments

  • Cryptographic references associated with your DNA Vault

  • App-level personal identifiers linked to your account

This deletion is irreversible.

Automatic Long-Term Deletion Safeguard

As an additional privacy safeguard, Mendly enforces a maximum retention period for genomic files.

If a user does not request deletion, encrypted genomic files are automatically deleted once they reach one hundred and twenty (120) years of age.

This ensures that genomic data is never retained indefinitely.

Irreversibility of DNA Deletion

Once deletion is completed:

  • No backups or recoverable copies of DNA data remain

  • Deleted genomic data cannot be reconstructed

  • Access to DNA-based services is permanently revoked

If you choose to use Mendly again in the future, a new DNA sequencing will be required.

Telemedicine Records (Important)

Medical consultations and prescriptions are provided by independent licensed physicians through a third-party telemedicine provider.

Medical records generated during these encounters — including visit notes and prescriptions — are maintained by the provider in accordance with applicable medical, licensing, and legal requirements and are not deleted when DNA data is deleted.

For questions about medical records, users must contact the telemedicine provider directly.

Billing & Legal Retention

Certain billing and financial records may be retained as required by applicable tax, accounting, and regulatory laws.

Any retained records are:

  • Limited in scope

  • Stored securely

  • Used solely for compliance purposes

  • Not linked to genomic or DNA data

Processing Timeline

  • DNA deletion: Immediate

  • Account deactivation: Immediate

  • Automatic maximum retention: 120 years

  • Compliance retention (billing only): As required by law

For security reasons, deletion requests for DNA data cannot be processed by email and must be completed from within the app.

Our Commitment

Mendly’s architecture ensures that genomic data is always encrypted, inaccessible without user authorization, and fully controlled by the individual.

Your DNA remains under your control — always.
