01 What is Mendly?
Answer :
Mendly is a DNA-First telemedicine platform that combines genetic insights, AI-assisted triage, and world-class physicians to deliver faster, more accurate care.
Every appointment can leverage your sequenced DNA to avoid delayed or misdiagnosis, reduce unnecessary tests, and support truly personalized medicine.
01 Who can use Mendly?
Answer:
Anyone in the United States can use Mendly. Our physicians are duly licensed in every state where they provide telemedicine services, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
Employers can also offer Mendly as a benefit to their workforce through a compliant national network of licensed doctors.
01 Is Mendly HSA/FSA eligible?
Yes. Mendly services, including DNA sequencing and telemedicine memberships, are eligible for HSA and FSA reimbursement. This means individuals and employers can use pre-tax healthcare funds to pay for Mendly services, lowering the effective cost of care while staying fully compliant with IRS health spending account rules.
01 Is Mendly FDA, CLIA, and HIPAA compliant?
Answer :
Yes. Mendly operates under full U.S. regulatory compliance. All DNA sequencing is performed in CLIA-certified laboratories that meet FDA quality standards, using FDA-registered collection devices. Our physicians are duly licensed and registered in each U.S. state where they provide telemedicine services, ensuring all care meets local medical regulations. We also follow HIPAA-compliant privacy protocols, using proprietary DNA Hypersharding technology so that only patients can access their genetic and medical data.
01 What does “DNA-First” mean?
Answer:
It means that every Mendly diagnosis starts with your genome. When symptoms appear, our AI instantly reviews your encrypted DNA to identify relevant genetic markers and define which tests match your condition — leading to faster and more accurate diagnoses.
01 Can my DNA data be used for diagnosis?
Answer:
Yes. Mendly care is a clinical grade company. In opposition to the RUO-Research Only Use, Mendly’s DNA-First model allows physicians to use your sequenced genome as part of the diagnostic process — always under medical supervision and your consent. Your encrypted DNA helps identify genetic markers that may explain symptoms or confirm conditions. All analyses are performed through CLIA-certified, FDA-compliant processes, ensuring medical-grade accuracy.
01 What kind of conditions can Mendly help detect?
Answer:
Mendly supports early detection of hundreds of genetic-influenced conditions — including cardiometabolic, neurological, immune, and rare diseases that often go undiagnosed for years. By combining your symptoms and DNA data, our AI helps doctors reach faster and more accurate conclusions.
01 Do I need to collect new samples each time?
Answer :
No. Your DNA is sequenced just once.
After that, your encrypted genetic data can be securely used in all future consultations — no repeat collections, no waiting, no retesting.
01 How does Mendly protect my DNA data?
Answer :
Your data is protected by a proprietary technology called Hypersharding. Your sequenced DNA is encrypted and stored on secure servers that does not have the decryption key, ensuring that only you can access it from your trusted device with your Mendly GenVault app. Even Mendly cannot decrypt your DNA without your authorization. We comply with HIPAA-equivalent privacy standards, ensuring full control and confidentiality of your information.
01 What is a Secure Enclave?
Answer :
A secure enclave is a special, isolated part of a computer or smartphone’s processor designed to keep sensitive data safe — even if the rest of the system is compromised. It has its own memory, encryption engine, and random key generator, and it runs a minimal, tamper-resistant operating environment. Modern devices like iPhones, Android phones, and many laptops have had secure enclaves (also called Trusted Execution Environments, or TPMs) for over a decade. They protect things such as Face ID, Touch ID, payment credentials, and digital keys. In Mendly’s case, the secure enclave is used to generate and store the cryptographic keys that protect your DNA data. These keys never leave the enclave, meaning no one — not even Mendly — can access or export them.
01 How can Mendly help employers save money?
Answer :
For self-insured employers, Mendly significantly reduces healthcare costs by preventing late or missed genetic diagnoses. It’s 30× cheaper to sequence every employee than to cover the medical costs of delayed diagnosis. Employers typically save an average of $540 per employee per year.
01 Can Mendly integrate with our existing health plan?
Answer:
Yes. Mendly can function as an add-on to your current benefits program or as a stand-alone telehealth solution. Our onboarding team helps HR and benefits administrators set up enrollment and claim coordination seamlessly.
01 How long does onboarding take?
Answer:
Most employers are fully onboarded in 2–6 weeks, depending on team size. Mendly handles DNA kit distribution, employee education, and secure system setup with minimal HR effort.
01 What happens if an employee leaves the company?
Answer:
The employee keeps their Mendly account and their sequenced DNA. Their membership can be converted to an individual plan, preserving privacy and continuity of care.
01 Can I download my DNA data?
Answer:
Yes. You can download your full sequenced genome within the first 30 days after sequencing at no cost. After that period, the data must be decrypted and rebuilt, which requires a $80 operational fee. Downloads are delivered in encrypted, industry-standard genomic formats (FASTQ/VCF), ensuring portability and security.
01 How long does Mendly keep my DNA data?
Answer:
Mendly securely stores your encrypted DNA for 10 years after your last paid membership. You may request permanent deletion of your encrypted DNA data at any time, and Mendly will process the request immediately in compliance with privacy regulations. If you later decide to resume service after cancellation or a long pause, there is a $120 reactivation fee to safely restore your account and genome access (if still available).
01 Can I export my DNA test results?
Answer:
Yes, but Mendly test results are not directly downloadable to ensure clinical accuracy and patient safety. Instead, you receive an access token that grants secure, time-limited access to your results for 90 days.
These results can only be requested and viewed by a licensed physician through Mendly’s secure medical portal. This process guarantees that all results are interpreted by qualified professionals and remain fully compliant with HIPAA and CLIA standards.
01 Can I participate in Mendly research projects?
Answer:
Yes — but only with your explicit consent. After providing an outcome feedback from a health condition treated with Mendel assistance, you may receive an optional invitation in your Mendel Gen Vault App to participate in specific health-condition research projects. These invitations are sent only to users who have experienced a relevant condition and have voluntarily provided outcome feedback through the app. Participation is entirely optional and limited to the health conditions described in the invitation. No data is ever used for research unless you explicitly accept the invite.
01 Is my DNA data used for anything else besides my diagnosis?
Answer:
By default, all DNA data is private and used exclusively for your medical diagnosis. Mendly does not share, sell, or analyze your genetic data for any external purpose. owever, receive an optional invitation participate in specific health-condition research projects.
